My number one place to stay in Puerto Rico is the El Escondido Guest House in Canovanas.
Now, this specific region might not ring a bell but it is only 20 minutes off the main road at Luquillo and is tucked up right next to El Yunque Rainforest. Right on your way to the rainforest or Fajardo.
The guest house in perched on top of a hill in the middle of the rainforest with a beautiful panoramic view and majestic grounds. The property only has five rooms, all with private bathrooms. There is a small pool overlooking the island all the way to the ocean. It provides the perfect atmosphere to sit back and relax in the middle of the rainforest.
If I were you I’d grab some dinner on your way up (they also have a fridge and microwave if you want to bring something) and enjoy the breathtaking view as the sunsets over the rest of the island and the Coqui start to chatter. Spend the night sitting and reading by the pool, enjoy escaping from the rest of the world.
Tucked Away But Centrally Located
The next day, explore the botanical garden and trails on the ground. After your continental breakfast with fresh fruits, some even grown on the grounds, take the time to explore the property. From here you can easily head into El Yunque and the owners can help guide you to some less populated stuff. Also, hop down to Fajardo for the Bio-Bay or to head to one of the islands.
The Perfect Getaway In Your Budget
The owners Scott, Joachim, and Niko have created an awe-inspiring experience for each of their guests. We had an amazing time and it was where we finally started to feel like we had gotten away. It was our favorite place we stayed by far and it kept us well within our budget. Rooms start at $90 in the off-season and you will get much more than you pay for.
My only complaint about the place is we didn’t get to stay long enough. If you are heading to Puerto Rico anytime soon you must put El Escondido Guest House in your itinerary. If not follow them on Facebook anyway for some great photos.
