Over the winter, I had a chance to spend a little more time in Lake Tahoe. Most of the time I’m visiting I stay with friends at a vacation rental. But this time, I wanted to start in a quiet spot and really get to see more of the area. I was lucky enough to stay at the Aston Lakeland Village Resort that runs right up along the lake in South Lake Tahoe and had a perfect escape at the resort on Lake Tahoe.
If you don’t know much about Lake Tahoe, it is four hours Northwest of San Francisco and straddles the California and Nevada border. All year, you will find one of the clearest lakes anywhere and breathtaking views from the vista points. In the winter, it is home to some of the countries best ski slopes and winter activities. As it warms up, it is the perfect destination for water sports and hiking the Sierras and getting out on the lake itself. If you’re not always trying to get outdoors the area is also filled with beautiful resorts, delicious restaurants, and high-end shopping. The area really has something for everything.
On my recent trip, even after arriving late, I had to stay up for awhile to just enjoy the room. The next day, I was able to explore and relax on the property before heading off to fit in more activities. Overall, the Aston Lakeland Village Resort has everything you need whether it is for a one night stop or a week long vacation.
Note: Thank you to Aston Lakeland Village for hosting my stay on the property. As always, all opinions remain my own. You’ll find affiliate links in this post which allow me to continue to improve Traveling Nine to Fiver. I hope this article is useful for you.
More Like Home Than A Hotel
One of the things I loved most about the Aston Lakeland Village Resort was how comfortable I felt instantly in my room. It was a two-story, one-bedroom townhouse with a loft. It could have comfortably fit four adults or a family of five.
The living room was welcoming and made you just want to curl up by the fireplace. You could sit and relax with a book or cook a delicious family meal in the well-stocked kitchen. The rooms were decorated in the token cabin style you’ll find around Lake Tahoe, which for whatever reason always makes me feel like I’m escaping away. The bathroom was far nicer than most hotels with a shower that I only wish I had at home.
Not only is it a resort on Lake Tahoe, but one I knew I could have stayed with a handful of people for a week and still felt relaxed in, unlike most hotel options you come across.
Right On The Lake
While there are many great things to say about the Aston Lakeland Village Resort, one of the things I couldn’t get over being right on the lake and the amazing views that came with it. You can walk just a minute or two from your room and in the summer be wading right in the water. When I visited, you could walk right out onto the ice instead and take in the beautiful snowcapped mountains in every direction around you. In the winter, unless you’re very daring, you can only really take in the beauty of the lake.
On the other hand in the summer, the location is great to enjoy the water right on the beach or find rentals from water skis to boats, or something more hands on like a paddle board or kayak. Walk just a block down and hop on a stand-up paddleboard tour with Kayak Tahoe or walk in the other direction you can get some power under you with a jet ski from Sun Run Boat Rentals.
Overall, you can’t beat the location as a resort on Lake Tahoe for both the view and activities.
Just Off The Slopes
The slopes themselves are not much farther than the Lake is from Aston Lakeland Village Resort. If you’re looking to hit the slopes at Heavenly the property offers a complimentary shuttle as well as discounted lift tickets when you book through them.
If you’re looking to explore additional properties Sierra at Tahoe is just a 25-minute drive and Kirkwood is only 45-minutes away. Overall, there are 17 ski resorts in the area and Aston Lakeland is right in the center of them all.
On top of the location, they have a ski shop on site, so whether you need to arrange rentals or get a tune up on your equipment you can do it without leaving the property.
If you’re like me and don’t hit the slopes there are still great activities to part take in during the winter and the resort is a great place to get you started. Take a look at a few of my tips for enjoying Lake Tahoe in the winter as a non-skier.
All The amenities You Need For A Weekend or A Week
Outside of your room, you’ll find just about all you need from the property itself. You, of course, start with the beach and if you’ve got a boat they even have docks available right on the property. Then just offshore you’ll find the hot tub and pool with a beautiful view. Relax on a chilly night with a trip to the sauna as well.
You’ll find activities from tennis courts to volleyball, and outdoor BBQs you can enjoy in the summer. A courtesy shuttle will take you to the casinos and back or on a nice day, it’s only a 30-minute walk.
Whether it is the location of the resort, the comfort of the rooms and condos, or the view itself the Aston Lakeland Village Resort can be your perfect place to stay in South Lake Tahoe no matter what season you visit in. Overall, you’ll find the perfect getaway at a resort on Lake Tahoe. If you’re looking for more things to do during your visit to Lake Tahoe check out the best things to do list here.
