Finding Food, Wine & Relaxation at the Murieta Inn & Spa

Tucked right near the Sierra Foothills you’ll find the Murieta Inn & Spa. It’s a quick drive from Sacramento, on the way to Lake Tahoe, and right next to Amador County Wine County. All this helps make it a perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

I recently had the chance to spend a weekend recharging at the Murieta Inn. It was a perfect getaway from all the hustle and bustle of life. The weekend was filled with some delicious wine, a chance to better get to know the local wine country, and a lot of relaxing including a trip to the spa. I was able to do all this without having to pull my car out of its parking spot. Making it even more enjoyable. (I might love travel but I hate driving!)

Keep reading to find out about my perfect getaway. Plus the Murieta Spa & Inn has offered a special discount to Traveling Nine to Fiver readers! Don’t miss out.

Enjoy the Epitome of Farm to Fork

One of the things that make your stay at the Murieta Inn unique is their on-location restaurant, The Gate. And what makes The Gate particularly outstanding is all the produce sourced from their local farm. Angel Wing Farm which is only about a mile away from the Inn. It doesn’t get any closer to farm to fork than that.

While I enjoyed everything I tried at The Gate from breakfast to lunch to dinner and even dessert. The meals that stood out above the rest were those focusing on the seasonal produce. It was summer when I visited, and summer in California means tomatoes. And the tomatoes from Angel Wing Farm are some of the best I’ve had. Their Caprese salad was outstanding. Prepared simply to let the heirloom tomatoes shine.

After that, I kept ordering everything with tomatoes on the menu from the spaghetti bolognese to the farm complete to the turkey BLT. All of these were delicious and allowed the seasonal produce to be the start.

On top of the local produce, The Gate has a great selection of local wine and beers. While we’ll dive into the local wine country below, you can explore it without even leaving the Inn. Whether you’d like to try a local sparkling Rose, a variety of whites or some of the big bold reds the region is known for you’ll have your pick. Farm to fork breakfast at Murieta Inn

Explore the Wine Country Right Nextdoor

Speaking of wine, I would recommend you do leave the Murietta Inn whether for an afternoon or for an entire day to explore some of my favorite spots in Amador County Wine County.

If you’re looking for just a quick visit to wine country, you can visit Sera Fina which is just a quick ten-minute drive away. They have a lovely view, tasty wines, and some delicious dry ciders to enjoy.

Keep driving up the road and you can explore a variety of different areas. If you want to try more than one tasting room within a short walk, head up to the vintage downtowns of Amador City or Sutter Creek. Both offer a few tasting rooms and some spots to grab a bite as well. I loved visiting Yorba in Sutter Creek on my recent visit. Wine tasting near Murieta Spa in Amador County at Yorba.

I can spend a long time listing off some of my favorites from Runquist to Cooper along the valley. Or you can explore the region with a local. I was lucky enough to have the chance to take a tour of the area with Amador Uncorked. Not only do you get transportation so you don’t have to worry about driving, but you also get a local expert as your guide. Jeremy who runs the company will take you to some local hot spots from small tasting rooms to local breweries to beautiful vineyards.

I’d never quite had a wine tour like this one. Even as someone who knows the area reasonably well, he took me to some outstanding wineries I had never taken the time to stop by before. All while sharing his knowledge of the industry, the local wine region, and introducing you to folks at each location so you can learn even more. Along our tour, we had the chance to visit Yorba, Turley Wine Cellars, Andis Wines, and Amador Brewing Company.

Cozy Up with a Little Luxury

Now you can’t have a relaxing getaway without a little luxury to enjoy. And the Murieta Inn & Spa is a perfect place to find it. As you walk into your guest room you’ll find two robes hanging up, ready for you to curl right into. The rooms themselves are nice and cozy with all the amenities you need.

I loved the chance to relax on my patio overlooking the pool in my robe with a glass of wine and a good book. It was a perfect way to enjoy the evening before dinner.

You’ll also want to spend your evenings with a glass in hand in front of their outdoor fireplace. It was a perfect place to sit back and relax and enjoy a perfect California evening. Or if you’re looking for a little more activity find some friends and get a game of cornhole going.

As I was heading to the Murieta Inn I was in need of kicking back and relaxing after a crazy month on the road. And I’m thankful I was able to achieve just that on my weekend getaway.

Recharge at the Pool & Spa

You’ll want to be sure to stay long enough to get some solid time poolside. Whether you’re taking a swim in the morning, grabbing lunch by the pool in the early afternoon, or spending your evening reading a book with your toes in the water, you’ll want to spend the entire day by the pool.

Then you might just want to pop back after dinner to enjoy the hot tub as well!

If you need even more relaxing, you’ll want to make an appointment at the Cupola Spa. Right on site, you’re able to book massages, facials, haircuts, nail appointments and more. Their spa overlooks the pool and has a lovely relaxation room. Plus, if you book more than one service you can get a discount.
