As I planned for my trip to Bali I looked for regions to get away from some of the main tourist filled cities, where I could find beautiful beaches to relax on, get in some quality scuba diving and easily explore the area around me. This led me to Bali’s North Coast and specifically Pemuteran on the northwest side of the island. Here I spent a little over five days diving, relaxing and eating delicious Balinese food.
There are a variety of resorts on this side of the island but I split my time between the Taman Sari Bali and Amertha Bali Villas. Both of these properties offer you distinct experiences all while giving you access to this great region.
Pemuteran is a three-hour drive from the Kuta region through breathtaking jungle and mountains. With views of beautiful lakes and the coast, you can even stop by temples on your drive, say hello to the monkeys along the side of the road and more. The drive to Bali’s North Coast itself gave me a chance to start getting to know the island.
Note: Thank you to both Taman Sari Bali and Amertha Bali Villas for hosting my stay on Bali’s North Coast. As always, all opinions remain my own. You’ll find affiliate links in this post which allow me to continue to improve Traveling Nine to Fiver.
Take in Laid Back Luxury at Taman Sari Bali
My number one goal in Bali was to complete my scuba certification. With that, I looked to start my time on the island where I could attend a high-quality scuba school that was based right on a resort. I knew that I’d be tired and want to rest up, or do only a little exploring during this time so I wanted a place I knew I could relax. This is how I came across Taman Sari Bali and the Bali Dive Academy.
The property is right on the beach, with lounge chairs and hammocks to relax on under trees. The perfect to waste away an afternoon in. You’ll find multiple pools on the property including the main one with an ocean view. On top of that, you can book a treatment at their onsite spa and at a great price, especially for a resort setting.
The property offers beautiful rooms and villas to stay in, with my favorite part the stunning outdoor bathroom where you can shower in the sun.
The Bali Dive Academy is the perfect place to either start your certification, add some new skills or just fit in some fun dives. With high-quality instructors and easy access to breathtaking sites, you’ll want to add a dive to your trip even if you hadn’t already planned to. The convenience of having them on site removes much of the hassle that can come along with diving. After your dive just walk over to a lounge chair and relax before heading back to your room or the restaurant. Read about my experience getting scuba certified abroad with Bali Dive Academy.
The on-site restaurant offers traditional Balinese cuisine, as well as western food. The complimentary breakfast allows you to order something a little different every morning. And whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner you get to eat with your toes in the sand while watching the waves.
Enjoy the Private Villas Life at Amertha Bali Villas
If one of the things you’re looking to experience during your time on Bali is a private villa experience without having to break the bank, then Amertha Bali Villas is an ideal spot for you. Whether you enjoy a private villa or one of their luxurious suites you’ll have access to a kitchen and pool just outside of your room. For a solo traveler, the suite was perfect, almost like a small studio space that was all my own. On the other hand, they offer multiple room villas that are perfect for fitting a large family.
On top of their beautiful rooms and villas, the property has a gorgeous beach front where you can watch the marina area just to your east and take in a breathtaking sunrise each morning. You can enjoy their beachfront pool, cozy lounge chairs on the beach and a restaurant with beautiful ocean views.
Enjoy relaxing evenings in your own private villa or spend an afternoon getting a massage at the spa located right on the beach.
Dive, Relax, Eat and Repeat on Bali’s North Coast
When you’re looking for a relaxing getaway where you can escape some of the crowds and touristy feel that you can find on the southern side of the island, sneaking away to Bali’s north coast gives you a chance to kick back and relax. Whether you’re scuba diving with a local dive shop, exploring the waterfalls and temples in the area, eating at one of the many delicious local warung where you’ll find some of the best meals on the island or just relaxing on the beach Pemuteran is a perfect spot for you.
